cyanotypes

Who was Anna Atkins?. She was born on 16th March 1799 and died on the 9th June 1871. Atkins was an expert botanist and illustrator of plants. She is known for making cyanotypes famous in her 12 part book, British Algae: Cyanotype impressions, her first book was released in 1843. It was the first ever book to have illustrations in it without having to draw them. Cyanotypes was also one of the first kind of photography that did need or use a camera.
Anna Atkins discovered the cyanotype process after she had met the British inventor Fox Talbot. But Sir John Hershal was the neighbour that discovered that when exposed to UV light the paper soaked with a iron salt solution captured a blue negative image, one the salt had been rinsed away. Within a year Atkins applies the process to algae by making cyanotypes and photograms that were contact printed.
I think this cyanotype turned out better than my first attempt at it. I think this because I used some different materials, for example I used more solid objects such as wood to create a clear white part to the picture. But I also used the roll of film again so it would create a more ghostly effect on the picture. However the main think i like about this picture is that I created a robot looking shape without realising I had.
